An estimated 240 million calls are made to 9-1-1 in the U.S. each year. In many areas, 80% or more are from wireless devices. The ability to reach out for help to our local 9-1-1 responders is something we have come to take for granted.
Adding text and multimedia extends this lifeline for those with hearing and speech impairments, as well as others such as foreign language speakers and those discreetly reporting domestic abuse or trafficking. Further, it offers situational awareness for pocket dials and major incidents.
